Winners Of The National Geographic Photo Contest

This year’s contest was divided into three major categories – People, places and nature. The grand-prize winning photograph was “Ice Bear” by Paul Souders of Seattle, which also won in the nature category. Adam Tan in Malaysia won the Places category with his “Long Road to Daybreak” photograph, while Danish photographer Cecile Baudier won the People category with her “Together, Alone” photograph.

What makes this annual contest so special is not just the outstanding photographs but the deep cultural and environmental significance that each photo conveys – beyond technical proficiency there is a real eye for the story.
